Old School Cattery near Bury St Edmunds, Whepstead, Suffolk

About Our Cattery Near Bury St Edmunds

Old School Cattery is a small, family-run cattery set in the garden of a 16th century thatched cottage in Whepstead, in the heart of the Suffolk countryside just a few miles from Bury St Edmunds. It is owned and operated by Pamela and Oli, who live on site - so there is always someone here to care for your cat and security is excellent.

A qualified animal behaviourist

Pamela is a qualified animal behaviourist and studied animal behaviour in 2004 with the Open College Network provided by COAPE (the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology). She has loved and lived with cats all her life and is passionate not only about their everyday well-being but their emotional needs too. Having worked in animal rescue, Pamela has encountered a wide range of personalities and behavioural quirks, and understands how to provide a calm home from home for even the most nervous and timid cats.

Small numbers, genuine one-to-one care

We deliberately take on only a small number of cats at any one time, because we would rather provide a high quality, one-to-one service than run a busy cattery. Cats are intelligent, sensitive creatures that need a loving, warm and safe environment as well as plenty of mental stimulation, which is why toys, games and enrichment are part of every stay. Calming Feliway and crystals help newcomers feel settled and at ease.

A peaceful rural setting

Our purpose-built guest rooms are larger than average, double glazed, centrally heated and insulated, with multiple levels, large windows and a separate covered toilet area. Cats cannot see other cats in adjacent rooms, and units are only ever shared by cats from the same family. With a window looking out onto the garden and chickens, it is a quiet, peaceful place for your cat to relax.

Fully licensed and inspected

Old School Cattery is fully licensed by West Suffolk Council, annually inspected by Environmental Health, fully insured and fire-safety inspected, so you can relax knowing your cat is in safe, professional hands.
