Old School Cattery cat boarding near Bury St Edmunds

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we are most often asked about cat boarding at Old School Cattery near Bury St Edmunds. If your question is not covered here, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.

Where is Old School Cattery located?

Old School Cattery is in Whepstead, a village just a few miles from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Our full address is Beehive Cottage, Old School Road, Whepstead, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP29 4UA.

How much does cat boarding cost?

Boarding is £17 per night for one cat in a pen, or £22 per night for two cats sharing a pen. A £40 non-refundable deposit secures your booking, with the balance payable by cash or BACS on arrival. See our pricing page for full details.

What vaccinations and treatments does my cat need?

All cats must have up-to-date vaccinations and be given flea and worm treatment at least 7 days before their stay. Cats must also be microchipped, which has been a legal requirement since 10 June 2024. Please bring your vaccination records to drop-off. Full details are on our terms and conditions page.

Do you accept un-neutered cats?

No. We do not accept un-neutered male cats over 5 months of age or un-neutered female cats over 6 months of age.

Can cats from the same family share a pen?

Yes. Our guest rooms are larger than average and can comfortably accommodate more than one cat or a whole family, and we have larger family rooms for three or more cats from the same household. Pens are only ever shared by cats from the same household, with the owner's permission.

What are your opening hours for drop-off and collection?

Viewings, drop-offs and collections are Monday to Saturday 9:30–11:30 and 16:30–18:30, and Sunday 9:30–11:30. Bank holidays and viewings are by prior appointment only.

Should I bring my own cat food?

Yes, we recommend you bring your cat’s usual food for the duration of their stay. Keeping their diet the same minimises stress and protects their digestive health. We can feed as often as you require.

Will I get updates while my cat is staying?

Yes. We are happy to send regular text and photo updates so you can see your cat enjoying their holiday while you are away.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Old School Cattery is fully licensed by West Suffolk Council, annually inspected by Environmental Health, fully insured and fire-safety inspected.

Which areas do you cover?

We welcome cats from Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding Suffolk villages, including Whepstead, Horringer, Sicklesmere, Rougham, Chedburgh, Hawstead and Brockley.
